Michigan is located in the Great Lakes Region of the U.S. and is surrounded by four of the five Great Lakes. It is the only state that consists entirely of two peninsulas. The state is divided into two separate areas by the Straits of Mackinac, which is a five mile wide channel joining Lake Huron to Lake Michigan.
