Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under administrative direction, assumes 24 hour responsibility in
managing the human and material resources of the Nursing Unit in order to
provide quality patient care and an environment conducive to staff growth
and satisfaction. Further contributes to nursing through support of its
philosophy, objectives and educational efforts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
. Clinical patient care management skills
. Human resource management skills - provides leadership and direction
to personnel in accordance with organizational and departmental goals and
objectives
. Operational management skills - maintains an environment that
encourages quality patient care and staff satisfaction Professional
expectations - actively participates as a member of the management team
. QA/QI responsibility for department
. Acts as a liaison with medical staff to coordinate medical and
nursing management of patient care
. Actively manages budget, charges, expenses
. Develops staff performance expectations and conveys these
expectations to the staff
. Serves as a patient advocate when needed
. Functions as staff nurse or charge nurse when needed
. Purchasing/inventory responsibility for department
SKILLS: Ability to read, write legibly and comprehend the written and
spoken word in English; documented satisfactory performance appraisals in
all essential functions; computer literate; conflict resolution for
physician and staff

Requirements:
EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program;
certifications in relevant area of nursing preferred; documented attendance
in continuing education during past year; Bachelor of Science in Nursing
highly preferred
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 - 3 years experience in a supervisory role in
applicable unit; management experience or documented background of
management principle and theory preferred; JCAHO background preferred
