Graduates Need to Work to Find Jobs, But Jobs are Out There

Posted in Nursing, Nursing Jobs, Nursing News, Nursing School, Nursing Shortage

Nursing’s reputation as being a recession-proof profession is taking a bit of a hit as more people enter nursing schools and then more graduates vie for the available jobs.  Even so, nursing school graduates are able to find jobs within a relatively short time.  This article about Orange County, California indicates that there is plenty of room for optimism:

"The increase in new nurses has made getting jobs immediately upon graduation very difficult," said Diane Pestolesi, a nursing instructor.

"Students are finding that although new facilities are opening they are not usually looking to hire new graduate RNs to staff them," she said.

Nursing Side-Steps Unemployment Crisis

Posted in Nursing, Nursing Jobs, Nursing News

There’s no denying that the economic struggles in the U.S. have made it difficult for some professionals to find work, and that the U.S. unemployment rate remains high. Despite these trends, careers in the medical field continue to be highly regarded for their stability and long-term demand. Registered nurses are an excellent example of how nurse employment opportunities are defying national trends and are still providing well-trained, qualified staff with employment in hospitals, clinics and long-term care facilities.

Trends show that RN’s are now beginning to look for jobs with more regular hours and less stress. (more…)

Many hospitals have been forced to implement mandatory overtime practices in order to meet their staffing guidelines when the patient census rises and hospitals are caught without the necessary workforce. Nurse employers pay careful attention to the recruiters they hire, looking for strong sales people who can speak the language and have the ability to form a bond. There is almost always a neat presentation to learn and follow with the company selling points outlined in a compelling way. And, just as often, the candidate leads are an afterthought. Employers believe that acquiring a list of all licensed professionals should do the job or that a subscription to a large job board should suffice. However, this is not a recipe for efficient recruiting; it’s a recipe for frustrated recruiters and nurses.
